Gattaca 🇺🇸 (Gattaca)

A dystopian story set in the not-too-distant future takes us inside a giant corporation focused on space programs, where hundreds of dedicated employees, carefully selected according to their DNA, work robotically. In an age dominated by genetic engineering and so-called „genism“, where belonging to a social class is determined by the quality of one’s genetic information, a typically noirish plot unfolds: a social outcast confronts his adversity in pursuit of the American Dream. Alongside the themes of fatalism and determination, the familiar noir motif of mistaken identity comes to the forefront as debut writer and director Andrew Niccol attempts to answer the question of what a person is willing to go through to realise their dream. The investigation of a murder mystery and the intense presence of the protagonist’s voiceover in the retrospective narrative is not missed.
